Walking on Waiheke Island

Waiheke Island is home to some of the most stunning picturesque walking terrain us well-travelled specimens have ever seen! The combination of coastal and native bush trails with endless views of the ocean, islands and volcanoes makes it such a unique and inspiring walking destination.

There is a wide range of public walking trails on Waiheke that cater to different fitness levels and desired walking times. These all feature as part of the Te Ara Hura Waiheke walking network. You could choose anything from a 15 minute walk to a 5 hour hike; in beach sandals or hiking boots!

We have a few favourite trails and many of them happen to be within walking distance of vineyards. In fact there is a stunning walking trail that takes you between all of the Onetangi Valley wineries. These include Te Motu, Stonyridge, Casita Miro, Obsidian, Tantalus and Wild on Waiheke.

The Cascades waterfall native bush walking trail is so tranquil and is part of the Whakanewha Regional Park. Exploring the park could take a few hours or you can always opt for some of the shorter trails. We love taking our guests on the stunning nature trail that sits between Peacock Sky and Batch wineries.

A great way to conclude a lovely long warm summer’s day of wine tasting is to take the trail from Mudbrick Vineyard to Matiatia for a sunset ferry cruise home.
